Jan Kyncl has been based at the Dept. of Epidemiology of the Centre for Epidemiology and Microbiology, National Institute of Public Health, Prague since 1998, currently as the deputy head. He graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, Charles University in Prague and obtained Postgraduate Diploma in Public Health and Epidemiology. He has focused on epidemiology of infectious diseases. He is the e pidemiologist with national responsibility for the Czech Republic acute respiratory infections reporting system and the member of the European Influenza Surveillance Scheme (EISS). He took part in several NATO Advanced Research Workshops. He participates in meetings organized by the European Commission (EC) as a representative of the Czech Republic.

He is a member of the Public Health Preparedness and Response Planning Group (PRPG) of the European Commission and an alternate member of the EC Health Security Committee. He is also an alternate member of the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) Management Board since 2004. He is the author or co-author of more than 60 papers and posters and 1 monograph.
