Dr. Jitka Castkova (MD, PhD)

Jitka Castkova graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, Charles University, Prague, in 1973. Since then she has been working at several positions in the Centre for Epidemiology and Microbiology, National Institute of Public Health, Prague, currently as the head of its Dept. of Epidemiology. She obtained postgraduate diploma in public health and epidemiology, followed by postgraduate 2 nd degree diploma in epidemiology. She also obtained Ph.D. degree in epidemiology from the Faculty of Medicine in Prague. She has focused on epidemiology of infectious diseases including a supervision of immunisation programmes, information and cooperation in the field of EU programmes.
She is member of the NIPH Committee for vaccine preventable infectious diseases and the secretary of the National committee for certification of polioeradication within the WHO programme for poliomyelitis eradication. She was awarded by the jubilee medal from the director of WHO-EURO regional office for activities in this field in 2003. Furthermore, she is member of the executive committee of the Czech society for epidemiology and microbiology.
She has also teaching experiences at the Institute for Postgraduate Medical Education and at the Faculty of Medicine, Charles University, both in Prague.
