Dr. Agoritsa Baka (MD) - Scientific Advisor, Researcher
Dr Baka has studied Medicine in the University of Athens and pursued specialty in Pediatric Emergency Medicine in the USA. During her fellowship in Atlanta, she became interested in disaster medicine and specifically Bioterrorism pursuing elective time at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Bioterrorism Preparedness and Response Programme (BPRP). After returning back to Greece, she was employed by the Hellenic Centre for Infectious Disease Control (HCIDC) to cover issues of Public Health preparedness for the Olympic Games Athens 2004. She was seconded for 18 months to the European Commission Taskforce on Bioterrorism, which was created in 2002. Since then she has kept close contact with the work done in this filed in the Commission Services. In the period before the Olympic Games she became responsible for the Office of Biological and toxic Hazards in the HCIDC and worked for planning against RBC threats during the Olympic period and the response of the health sector. She also edited educational material for the Greek healthcare personnel and the public, in addition to participating in numerous training activities for physicians, nurses, public health personnel and first responders (policemen, firemen and paramedics) on the subject of asymmetrical threats.
